These could be considered the purest Afghan rugs. The traditional deep red shows off the rich blue-black design, often punctuated by soft fawn or pale cream colours. These rugs are extremely practical and hardwearing. They are hand-knotted using Afghan wool, traditionally dyed with Madder root to get the deep red.

They are generally produced in the Kunduz region of Afghanistan.
